The Quarter Horse Journal, a monthly high quality journal for Western Riders has a circulation of approximately 25,000. They published a 6 page article on the Buffalo Roundup in South Dakota written by Dr. Margit Brinke and Dr. Peter Kraenzle. The article is called “Here they come – Buffalo Roundup in Custer State Park” and is accompanied by an extensive photo coverage of the event. In a first part, the history of the Bison in the plains and their importance to the Sioux Tribes is described. Then the Buffalo Roundup itself is explained to the reader. As the Quarter Horse Journal is the magazine for Western Riders and Horse Fans in Germany a special emphasis is laid on the job of the attending cowboys and cowgirls. Wyoming

The Quarter Horse Journal, a monthly high quality consumer journal for Western Riders has a circulation of approximately 25,000. They published a 5 page article on Cody and Sheridan, Wyoming in their April issue. The article is written by Dr. Margit Brinke and Dr. Peter Kraenzle and is called “Auf den Spuren von Buffalo Bill” (On the tracks of Buffalo Bill).

Cody and its history and importance today are vividly described – emphasis is laid on Buffalo Bill and the Buffalo Bill Historical Center. Sheridan is portrayed as the Nr. 1 Western Town of America and its authentic Western atmosphere is displayed to the reader. In addition the article talks about nearby sights, such as Yellowstone National Park and mentions Bozeman and Virginia City, Montana and the Black Hills, South Dakota.

Mentioned in particular are: Bighorn Mountains, Eaton’s Guest Ranch, Historic Sheridan Inn, Bradford Brinton Memorial Historic Ranch & Museum, Bozeman Trail, Fort Laramie, Oregon Trail, Fort Phil Kearny State Historic Site, Buffalo etc.

Idaho & Wyoming

The Quarter Horse Journal, a monthly high quality consumer journal for Western Riders has a circulation of approximately 25,000. In their August edition 2007, they published a 4-page article written by Margit Brinke and Peter Kraenzle called “Besuch bei den Nez Perce Indianern” (A visit to the Nez Perce Tribe). The article basically tells the story of the Nez Perce and also the Nez Perce Trail. But this is only one small part of the article. Wide passages also refer to their importance for the Lewis & Clark expedition and to the Nez Perce National Historical Park as a tourist attraction today.

There is also lots of reference to the beautiful nature and all the possibilities to go hiking, biking, fishing and rafting in the region. As this is the “Quarter Horse Journal”, the article also talks about the Appaloosa Horses. In a separate information box, contact details for the RMI Germany office as well as tips for accommodation (also Xanterra and the Old Faithful Inn in the Yellowstone National Park are mentioned), tours and books about the Nez Perce are provided.


Montana

With emphasis on horses, cowboys and ranch-life the authors tell about the spectacular sights, the rich wildlife and the unique combination of Native and Western Culture in the “Big Sky” State. Mentioned in particular are Glacier National Park, Gates of the Mountain Wilderness, Missouri River, Nez Perce and other Native people, Montana River Ranch, C.M. The Quarter Horse Journal, a monthly high quality consumer journal for Western Riders has a circulation of approximately 25,000. In their October 2007 edition, they published a 6-page article written by Margit Brinke and Peter Kraenzle called “Der Wilde Westen lebt” (The Wild West is alive).

The article, which is edited with many impressive pictures, describes the Black Hills in South Dakota with a lot of emphasis on the western town of Deadwood. After a short historical introduction about the history and the gold rush including a description of all the historical buildings visitors can still see today, the authors describe all the important touristic highlights in the Hills, including the outdoor activities and the wildlife. Mentioned in particular are: Mount Rushmore National Monument, Crazy Horse National Memorial, Badlands National Park, Custer State Park, “Tatanka – Story of the Bison”, Sturgis and the Annual Rally, the Journey Museum in Rapid City etc. In the end a very extensive information box gives the reader practical information and contacts.

South Dakota, Wyoming & Montana

German consumer magazine on Quarter Horses. It has a circulation of 25,000 and is published monthly.

In their first 2008 edition they published an article written by Dr. Margit Brinke and Dr. Peter Kraenzle called “Warriors of the Plains”. The article explains the traditions of the Plains Native Tribes and concentrating mainly on the Lakota Sioux in North and South Dakota. Mentioned are also the Bighorn Mountains in Wyoming as well as the Big Sky State Montana. America Journal

AJ has a circulation of approximately 45,000 and is published bi-monthly. In their May/June issue they published 2 articles written by Dr. Margit Brinke and Dr. Peter Kraenzle, which included coverage of the RMI States:

Wyoming

The first article is called “Zu Gast bei echten Cowboys” (Visiting Real Cowboys) and presents the Twin Creek Ranch & Lodge in Lander, Wyoming. Mentioned in particular are the tranquil atmosphere, the authentic accommodation, the various activities visitors can participate in and the extraordinary quality of the served meals. Wyoming

This publication is a result of Margit and Peter’s press trip to the RMI region in 2006.

America Journal is a bi-monthly consumer travel magazine with a circulation of 40.000. In their Nov/Dec issue they published several articles relating to the RMI region.

The Mill Inn Hotel in Sheridan, Wyoming is described within their section “The best Hotels in North America”. The half page article is written by Peter Kraenzle and Margit Brinke. Mentioned as well are Yellowstone National Park, the Black Hills in South Dakota and Sheridan as Nr 1 Western-Town in America, the Buffalo Bill days in June and the Wyoming Rodeo in July.

The second article is again related to Sheridan, written by Peter Kraenzle and Margit Brinke and concentrates on the town as No 1 Western Town of America under the category “Lebendiger Westen” (Vivid West). The 3 page article talks about the history of Sheridan, Buffalo Bill and the Sheridan Inn. The authors vividly explain the tradition of Mint Bar and King’s Saddlery and inform the reader about the Bradford Brinton Memorial Historic Ranch & Museum and other interesting stops in the region. Mentioned is also Sheridan’s setting halfway between the Black Hills and Yellowstone National Park.

In the information box underneath the article, C.J. Box’ book “Silent witnesses” is given as a book suggestion – it will be published in German on the German market January 2008. The book is described as ideal reading material to find out more about the countryside and history of Wyoming and the traditions and mentality of its inhabitants.

Bruckmann Publishing House: Highlights USA – "die 50 schönsten Ziele, die Sie gesehen haben sollten“

In April 2007 the Bruckmann Publishing House came on the market with a very interesting Travel Book: Dr. Margit Brinke and Dr. Peter Kraenzle were responsible for the texts and Christian Heeb for the photos. On 170 high-gloss pages the 50 most important travel destinations in the United States are displayed and described in detail. At the end of each destination chapter the contact details for the Tourism Offices in Germany are given.

For the RMI Region two regions are featured: Mount Rushmore National Monument and Crazy Horse National Memorial in the Black Hills. Mentioned in particular are: Lakota Sioux, Custer State Park and the annual Buffalo Roundup, Deadwood, Badlands National Park, Tatanka – Story of the Bison, Wind and Jewel Cave as well as Iron Mountain Road and Needles Highway.

Secondly the Yellowstone National Park in Wyoming and Montana is portrayed in one whole chapter. Its vicinity to the State of Idaho is mentioned as well. Mentioned in particular are: Lewis and Clark, the rich flora and fauna, Old Faithful Geyser, Upper, Gibbon and Tower Falls, Morning Glory and Gem Pool.


Augsburger Allgmeine

This is a consumer oriented magazine with destination articles and travel news. In their September 18, 2007 edition of the Reise Journal they included an article called “Be aware – the Buffalo come!” written by Margit Brinke and Peter Kraenzle.

The article describes vividly the annual Buffalo Roundup in Custer State Park, South Dakota. Mentioned as well are Buffalo Bill Cody, Yellowstone National Park, Mt. Rushmore National Monument as well as Deadwood. Contact details for RMI Germany are given.
